Description

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600, 000 people. We are a high performing organisation with a track record of success. We have been listed in the CHKS 40 top hospitals for the last five years, and were named as one of Dr Foster's Trusts of the Year in 2009. The Trust has been an integrated acute and community services provider since 2011 and now has a workforce of over 8, 000. Core services at each of these sites include Accident & Emergency; acute medicine; crictical care; emergency and planned surgery; orthopaedics; women and children's services and a full range of support, diagnostic services and outpatients.

Company description
We're looking for local people who can help us shape the future of health services for County Durham and Darlington by joining as members. Public membership is FREE and open to anyone over the age of fourteen who lives within the geographic area served by the Trust. This constituency is divided into different areas: Chester-le-Street, Durham City, Darlington, Sedgefield, Derwentside, Wear Valley and Teesdale, Easington, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and beyond and Tees Valley, Hambleton, Richmondshire and beyond. More than 6, 000 people have already become members of the Foundation Trust - and you can still send in your application. Foundation Trusts are more accountable to the communities they serve. As a member, you will be able to play a role in shaping your local health services in the future and you can vote in future elections for governors to represent your area on the Governing Council.
As a Foundation Trust member you also receive a free copy of the Trust's newsletter 'Newsround'. In this you'll find news on the latest events and developments within the Trust and the latest information for members and governors. The Governing Council is comprised of thirty nine governors who represent the Trust's public and staff constituencies and those stakeholder organisations who are entitled to appoint governors under the terms of the Trust's constitution. The Governing Council has a number of statutory duties, including the appointment and removal of the Chairman and non executive directors, the appointment of the Trust's auditors and the approval of changes to the constitution of the Trust. They also hold to account the Board for its management of the Trust.
The Trust values the contribution of its governors and the particular perspectives that they bring to the development of services. Consequently, governors are active in developing the Trust's strategies and its annual plan. The Governing Council has strong working links with the Board.
